A comfort station is more than just a restroom when it comes to planning and design.

Orange City Council awarded the contract for the comfort station project to CXT, Inc for the amount of $255,989.

The cost estimate for the project is:

Large Santiago Building $73,844

Small Ozark I Building $43,645

Air conditioner for large building $6,000

Foundations/Sidewalks $7,500

Water Service Line $5,000

Sewer Grinder Station $7,500

Electrical Line $2,500

Contingency $10,000

“The large facility would only be open during large events,” Director of Public Works and Engineering Department James B. “Jim” Wolf said. “The smaller one would be open at all times.”

Council also approved a 30 day extension for the Riverside Pavilion.

May Recreation was officially awarded the contract to purchase the new playground equipment for Lions Den Park for the amount of $489,344.50.

An amendment was added to the annual action plan budget for COVID funding.

Orange Community Action Association (Meals on Wheels) will receive $56,232 to include cleaning supplies for the building, including masks, gloves, hand sanitizers, wall mounted scan thermometers for the kitchen and office entrance. They are also requesting funds for food for the elderly.

Orange Christian Services will receive $84,000 for funds to be used towards emergency services of past due rent/mortgages and utilities as well as air filtration system for the building.

James Hope Center for Children will receive $23,656 to be used for services to the homeless, families in need, providing nutrition twice a day, warm and clean clothes, and water for hydration to those affected by COVID-19.

Mayor Larry Spears Jr proclaimed Tuesday, July 14, 2020 as Two Rivers Chapter Order of Demolay Day.

DeMolay members learn how to conduct business meetings and how to perform the rituals, plays, and speeches that set DeMolay apart from other fraternities according to its official website.

“The ultimate aim of the organization is to build better sons which will, in turn, mean better men to be better citizens, husbands, fathers, friends and leaders in the future,” Spears read the proclamation during the council meeting Tuesday morning.
