PRESS RELEASE — Hope everyone had a great 4th of July weekend. There was a boat parade and a land parade up at Toledo Bend. Seeing all the red, white, and blue made me so proud to be an American.

We had a scare here at the office last week. One of our officers checked positive for the Coronavirus. We had to have our staff and most of the courthouse employees tested. The good news was nobody else checked positive. Bad news is we had to cut our services in half for a day or two. Thanks for being patient with us.

We had a very expensive dually pick up stolen Friday night. We recovered it not long after and found out who stole it. It took a while to get a warrant and arrest the lady who stole it. She is still in jail today.

We got three females in jail over the weekend. Females don’t make good prisoners. They have been a pain.

We received a report of two dirt bikes being stolen from off of FM 2626. Both were recovered that night. No arrest made, YET.

Received a call in reference to two people on jet ski’s running over geese at Toledo. We never got the call. Anyone know anything about this, give us a call. People are upset about it. Lady found a $100 bill at fireworks display. She went home with the money and called the residence where it was found. Another lady went to get her $100 bill and fight started. All well.

We have had a spike in Coronavirus cases in Newton County. Please remember to wear your face masks, wash your hands often, and social distancing.

Gotta go. Thought for the week: Laughter is the shock absorber that eases the blows of life. Ya’ll have a good week. If we can help just holler. God Bless.
