City Manager Mike Kunst read a letter, during the Tuesday evening council meeting, from Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce President Ida Schossow announcing the Bassmaster Tournament scheduled for the end of May has been rescheduled for November 12-15, 2020 due to the pandemic.

The chamber felt it was the best way to proceed.

The entertainment, including Neil McCoy are in the process of being rescheduled and the plan to is keep the same performers.

The carnival has already been rebooked for the new dates.

A pavilion remains under construction for the event as well. Council approved two change orders for the project during the meeting.

The first change order was to provide for additional storm water piping at a cost of $5,240.

“This will improve on the original design to keep the area as dry as possible,” Orange Public Works Director James Wolf said.

The second change order is to extend the project by 70 days from the original agreement.

“This is for time only,” Wolf said. “We have documented rain days in January and February.”

The project, which broke ground in December, was allotted 110 days.

“With Bassmaster moving the dates for the event, I see no reason to not agree,” Councilmember Brad Childs said.

Both change orders passed.

Mayor Larry Spears Jr. said the curfew for juveniles during the COVID Stay at Home orders would expire as would the one person per family allowed in the stores.

However, the ordinance for curfews would remain in effect.

According to ARTICLE 7.1402 Curfew hours for minors:

Sunday – 11 p.m. until 6 a.m. Monday

Monday – 11 p.m. until 6 a.m. Tuesday

Tuesday – 11 p.m. until 6 a.m. Wednesday

Wednesday – 11 p.m. until 6 a.m. Thursday

Thursday – 11 p.m. until 6 a.m. Friday

Friday – 12 a.m. until 6 a.m. Saturday

Saturday – 12 a.m. until 6 a.m. Sunday

Minor means any person under 17 years of age who has not been emancipated by court order pursuant to Chapter 31 of the Texas Family Code.
