Newton County Sheriff Office (NCSO) recovered a vehicle that was abandoned on State Hwy 87S in the Devils Pocket area on Friday, March 27.

NCSO contacted the owner and the vehicle was released.

Monday, March 30, NCSO received a report of a missing man last seen in Cameron La.

NCSO spent time looking for him. On Saturday, April 4, 2020 at 12:19 NCSO received a call from hog hunters who spotted a body in a creek approx. ½ mile east from where the vehicle was recovered.

Volunteers from the Deweyville Fire Dept and NCSO carried the body to State Hwy 87 and an inquest was done by Justice of the Peace Dana Ashmore and the body was transported to the Jefferson Co morgue for an autopsy.

The subjects name is not being released until family notification is done.
