West Orange Cove Consolidated Independent School District Superintendent Rickie Harris issued a letter on Saturday with the district’s plans during the COVID-19 closures.

It reads:

Dear Mustangs, Student learning will be going online! As we embark on our new journey, learning and working remotely, I want to let you know that you are not alone at this difficult time. We will provide you with updates and information so that you have the resources to help ensure the continuity of learning among our young people.

Flexible Education Plan: Digital instruction will begin Wednesday, March 25th. We have created a new WOCCISD-AT-HOME site for each campus where you can find student daily guidance plans, weekly student expectations, learning tracking logs, and specific instructions on your child’s campus page.

Kindergarten through 5th grade will use Imagine Learning, and 6th-12th grade will use Google Classroom.

Technology Needs: We want to make sure all of our students have the technology to access the learning opportunities and curriculum materials. If your child needs to borrow a device from the district, we have created a form for you to complete. Please complete the form for each student who will borrow a device.

In addition, staff will continue to work throughout the normal school hours and carry out their work to the extent possible during our school closures. Our child nutrition services team will also work collaboratively to ensure that students continue to receive meals each day.

Meals for Students: The district will provide breakfast and lunch to our students each day via a drive-through “Grab and Go” at North Early Learning Center and West Orange-Stark High School. Children 18 years of age and under, regardless of income and enrollment in the district, will be provided a meal. Children must be present to receive the meal, and parents will be unable to receive a meal for a child who is not present. We will serve meals Monday through Friday each week.

Breakfast – 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM &Lunch- 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM

Finally, we know that this is a challenging time for our students, staff, and families. Now is a time that we must remember the power of collaboration and teamwork. Our staff will continue to work to provide our students and families with the support needed during this school closure period. WOCCISD will continue to share information through the WOCCISD website, social media, and email. Check out our
new WOCCISD-AT-HOME site where you can find all the updates and information you will need while schools are closed.

Sincerely,

Rickie Harris, Ed.D.
