Schools close in anticipation of Disaster Declaration of Emergency by Orange County officials

One by one, Orange County schools announced its schools, out of an abundance of caution beginning on Monday, March 23, 2020 will close.

WOCCISD will reassess this closing on or before Friday, April 3, 2020.  Its goal, according to a press release, is to return on Monday, April 6, 2020.

Orangefield ISD, Little Cypress Mauriceville CISD, Bridge City ISD and Vidor ISD also sent out similar releases.

“As you know, this is an unprecedented event, and it will take some time to coordinate these educational efforts,” WOCCISD Superintendent Rickie Harris said. “We plan to meet with our Leadership team to prepare for this new type of instruction. We will release more specifics later this week.”

“We will continue to monitor the situation and collaborate with local agencies to make the best decision for our students and community,” Orangefield ISD Superintendent Shaun McAlpin said.

“Administration will be working carefully over the next several days to prepare instructional material and meals for students,” Vidor Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Jay Killgo said. “Your child’s teacher will communicate with you early next week to let you know of their class expectations. There will be more information forthcoming with regard to details. Please follow our social media formats as well as our district website for continuing information.  More specifics will be released to students, parents and staff later this week.”

LCM CISD will implement a Flexible Education Program (FEP) beginning Tuesday, March 17, through Friday, April 3.  Students will not report to school beginning tomorrow.

The FEP will include a blended instructional approach with both online and paper/pencil learning tasks.  This plan will vary by grade level.  Information regarding academic planning for each child will be sent from the child’s teacher.
