BEAUMONT — The Alzheimer’s Association Southeast Texas Chapter will present the 8th annual Family Portrait Luncheon on Thursday, March 26 at the MCM Eleganté Hotel Grand Ballroom, 2355 Interstate 10 Access Road, Beaumont, TX   77705.  The event is benefitting Alzheimer’s care, support and research in Southeast Texas.

This year’s speaker will be Dr. Jim Ray, Director of The Neurodegeneration Consortium (NDC), a multi-institutional collaboration whose mission is to slow, stop, or reverse Alzheimer’s disease and related neurodegenerative diseases.

“We are excited to welcome Dr. Ray to Beaumont and we know you will find his message to be very informative,” says Shanna Briggs, Alzheimer’s Association Southeast Texas Regional Manager.  “We want to create awareness and educate the community about Alzheimer’s disease and caregiver strategies in Beaumont and Southeast Texas.”

Over 140,000 people in Southeast Texas are living with Alzheimer’s, and statewide the number is over 390,000.

“While those numbers are frightening, nationwide it’s reaching epidemic proportions,” says Briggs. “Over 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s, and as many as 16 million will have the disease in 2050. The cost of caring for those with Alzheimer’s and other dementias is estimated to reach $1.1 trillion in today’s dollars by mid-century.”

Nearly one in three seniors dies with Alzheimer’s or another dementia.

The Family Portrait Luncheon honors them, and also helps fund dementia specific educational programs, care consultations, the 24/7 HELPline, and early stage memory loss programs in Southeast Texas.

This year’s event chair is Charlotte Mains, co-chairs Jo Bienvenu, Gerry Edwards, Kathleen Hambright, Carol Hearn and Maureen Winchell.  Honorary chairs are The Honorable Jeff Branick and Mrs. Sherrie Branick.

The 2019 Beaumont Family Portrait Luncheon had approximately 450 attendees and raised more than $158,000 for Alzheimer’s educational programs, care and support groups in Southeast Texas, and for research.
