LITTLE CYPRESS – The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears passed their first District 22-4A contest with flying colors Tuesday night as they hammered the Hamshire-Fannett Lady Longhorns 7-1 at Lady Bear Field.

Karson Friar was dynamite on the mound for the Lady Bears as she struck out a whopping 17 Lady Longhorns while allowing just two hits while walking just one.

The Lady Longhorns scored their only run of the game in the top of the second inning after a solo home run by freshman Sanders.

The Lady Bears got the bats going in the fourth.

Payten Smith, who was 2-for-4, led off the bottom of the fourth with a hit and moved to second on a nice Carly Cogar sacrifice bunt. Savanna Beard, who went 2-for-3, then drove in a run with a fly ball to right field.

The Lady Bears cut loose in the bottom of the fifth frame.

Olivia Leavings led off with a double and Madeline Stephenson picked up a RBI single. Bailey Frenzel then plated Stephenson with a RBI single. Megan Peveto would reach base with a single and Rylee Wizemann promptly sent home two more runs with a single.

Beard singled with two outs and Cami Shugart drew a walk to load the bases and the Leavings picked up a RBI with a bases-loaded walk.

The Lady Bears scored again in the sixth off of a couple Lady Longhorn miscues in the field.

The Lady Bears will hit the road for 22-4A play Friday when they visit Silsbee.

In other 22-4A action Tuesday, Lumberton downed West Orange-Stark 11-1.
