Bobcats wrap up West tourney by downing host Trojans

WEST – An early lead helped the Orangefield Bobcats defeat the West Trojans 5-2 on Saturday at the West Tournament.

The Bobcats scored on a double by Kent Michael in the first inning, a double by Mason Sampson in the second inning, a single by Tyler Washington in the second inning, and a single by Gunner Jones in the second inning.

The Bobcats pulled away for good with three runs in the second inning.  In the second Sampson doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, Washington singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run, and Jones singled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run.

Michael earned the victory on the pitcher’s mound for Bobcats. He went four innings, allowing two runs on five hits, striking out six and walking one.  Jones threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.  Jones recorded the last nine outs to earn the save for Bobcats.

Smith took the loss for West Trojans. He allowed 13 hits and five runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out one and walking zero.

The Bobcats tallied 15 hits on the day.  Ryan Trahan, Sampson, Kameryn Henderson, Washington, and Kadeon Evans each managed multiple hits for Bobcats.  Sampson and Trahan all had three hits to lead Bobcats.

The Trojans racked up seven hits on the day.  Sembera and Hamilton all had multiple hits for West.

The Bobcats move to 6-2 and will travel to WOS on Tuesday.
