One year ago, on Wednesday, first responders received a call no one wants to hear: a child has been killed.
It was the day the Orange community was in shock as reports of a two-year-old child was killed by her father.
First responders who worked that day and responded to the call held a candlelight vigil for Savanna ‘Savi’ Roque on Wednesday.
While the cold weather and wind would not permit the lanterns to fly or the candles to stay lit, it did not hamper the crowd from taking a moment to reflect as they gathered together in a circle for a moment of silence and prayer.
“I can’t imagine getting a phone call like that,” City of Orange Mayor Larry Spears Jr. said. “Thank you for all you do.”
Mayor Pro Tem Patrick Pullen added, “As our population continues to grow, we hope to have a place to go for people to talk to other first responders. Thank you for all you do.”
Yovahnis Roque was charged with capital murder of his daughter, Savi.
