Students who have received scholarships through the INVISTA donation were present on Wednesday when the company presented the college with $10,000 for scholarships.

“We are grateful to partner with Lamar State College-Orange,” INVISTA Site Manager Christopher Brittain said. “We have LSCO graduate employed at the site.”

Dean Gina Simar said she was glad to hear the scholarship was also for business and nursing students as well.

Of the five students present who received the scholarship, one is majoring in IT.

The scholarships are for positions INVISTA would hire such as Industrial Technology, Process Technology, Instrumentation, Welding, Business Management, Safety, Health and Environmental, Computer Science, Emergency Medical Services, and Nursing.

“The Golden Triangle area is forecasting a demand in trade careers, and the need for certified workers is growing,” Brittain said. “The opportunity to partner with Lamar State College-Orange will help individuals obtain the certifications to find employment in this area.”

Brittian added it was mutually beneficial to help the community with partnering with the college.

“The college provides qualified employees who can hit the ground running,” Brittian said.

“It’s absolutely wonderful to be able to partner with INVISTA on this,” Johnson said. “Our motto at Lamar Orange is the Future is Bright Orange and we mean it. You students are learning from people who know what they’re doing, we have small classes with hands-on learning opportunities, so when you go to work there’s less training required and you can get right to work. I know businesses appreciate when we can send them skilled workers.”
