The Orange Leader

Keep Orange County Beautiful (KOCB) presented Salvation Army’s Boys and Girls Club with the First Quarter KOCB Beautification Award on Thursday.

After a majority of the trees were destroyed in Hurricane Rita in 2005, KOCB donated and helped plant several trees, six years ago, on the property of Salvation Army’s Boys and Girls Club located at the corner of Martin Luther King Drive and Strickland Drive in Pinehurst.

Now, the trees are flourishing along with majestic Pines planted by Edgar Brown Sr.

KOCB selected the location because “its a generous and noble act to Protect, Preserve, Propagate and plant BIG Trees.”

Captains Francisco and Jan Zuniga

Captain Jan and Captain Francisco Zuniga attended The Salvation Army’s Evangeline Booth College in Atlanta Georgia.

Both were Commissioned and Ordained in 2009 and have served as Officers of The Salvation Army four years in Austin, four years in Waxahachie, and presently on their second year in Orange County.

They have two daughters, Sofia, 8, and Ana, 4.

Zuniga’s heart and passion is to serve others thru the ministry of The Salvation Army.  They hope to remain in Orange for a minimum of another three years and continue to be a part of a community engaged in not only meeting the human, physical need but the Spiritual need as well.
