To The Leader

The Lutcher Theater presents Robert Hardy’s Steel Magnolias, at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, February 19. Tickets are available from $40-$45 at lutcher.org or by calling the Lutcher Box Office at 409-886-5535. The play is a heartbreaking story of six strong women from a small town in the deep bayou of Louisiana that learn together they are strong enough to endure even the toughest struggles forging a lifelong bond.

Making their Lutcher debut, LA Theater Works performs this classic in their signature radio theater format featuring a first-rate cast of women with stage and television credits. This unique style includes the actors creating live sound effects, standing at microphones and using pantomime instead of props for an intimate experience between the cast and the audience that is rarely felt in a traditional theater setting.

Truvy’s beauty parlor is the women’s gathering place, where they gossip, laugh, and share recipes and beauty secrets. The show is a funny tale of friendship and the unbreakable mother-daughter bond. Steel Magnolias remains one of the great stories of female empowerment and resilience.

At turns, both laugh-out-loud funny and deeply touching, Steel Magnolias reveals the strength of the human condition and our shared need for companionship. Together, friends absorb the passing seasons, just like the weathered wooden structure of the salon “home” that they share.

L.A. Theatre Works (LATW) has been the foremost radio theater company in the United States for four decades. LATW broadcasts weekly in America on public radio stations, and programs are aired internationally on the BBC, CBC, and many other English language networks.

LATW has single-handedly brought the finest recorded dramatic literature into

the homes of millions. On the road, LATW has delighted audiences with its unique live radio theater style performances in over 300 small towns and major cities, including New York, Boston, San Francisco, Washington and Chicago, Beijing and Shanghai.

In conjunction with their presentation of Steel Magnolias, the Lutcher Theater is hosting a LifeShare blood drive Monday, February 18, 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. in the theater parking lot. Share the gift of love by donating to the local blood bank of Southeast Texas. According to the LifeShare website, “one in every three people will need blood at some point in their life.”
