Woman claiming to be victim arrested for false report

PRESS RELEASE — On Friday, January 25th, 2019 at 1:36 PM, the Lake Charles Police Department was called to the Murphy USA on Nelson Road in reference to an attempted carjacking and a simple robbery that occurred in the Walmart parking lot.

The victim told initial reporting Officers that two suspects attempted to take her vehicle from her and they removed an undetermined amount of money from her purse.

During the course of the subsequent investigation, it was learned the victim was not truthful in her assessment of what occurred.

During an interview with the “victim” on Thursday, January 31st, the victim advised she fabricated the entire story about being carjacked and robbed. The victim had now become the suspect and was placed under arrest. Beverly Ann Gary, 56, of Lake Charles, is being charged with false communication with the intent to cause an emergency response. A bond has not been set at this time.
