From You’ve Lost that Loving Feeling to I’m Just a Bill; Dueling Pianos keeps the audience singing

David Morris returned to Orange and brought Brent Bobbitt with him as the two battled it out on pianos on Saturday at the VFW Hall on State Hwy. 87 in Orange. Morris and Bobbitt are not the typical piano players as Billy Joel sings about in The Piano Man, but instead, they are a part of Pete’s Dueling Pianos.
The event benefited the United Way of Orange County and included live and silent auctions.
Pianists sang familiar hits such as American Pie to I Am Just a Bill (On Capitol Hill).
And yes, they performed Piano Man.
Not only did Morris and Bobbitt sing, but they also had the crowd laughing and encouraged audience participation, making the event even more enjoyable.
The numbers are not finalized at press time but are estimated to be a little over $35,000.
“If everyone in this room gave $5 a week, that would have a tremendous impact for Orange County,” President and CEO United Way of Orange County Maureen McAllister before the event started. “Help us do that by giving monthly, weekly or annually if you prefer.”
McAllister also spoke of the Roundup option where one can connect a card used for daily purchases and ‘roundup’ to the nearest dollar amount as change. Funds donated to the United Way of Orange County are invested by a network of experienced volunteers into the “basic building blocks” for a good life and programs, which assist in areas of education, income, health and basic needs.
The United Way of Orange County assists more than 20 agencies across the area with funding, which is donated by businesses and individuals. Some of these organizations include Orange Community Action Association also known as Meals on Wheels, Southeast Texas Hospice, Salvation Army, Vidor Children’s Fund,
Greater Orange Area Literacy Services (GOALS), YMCA of Southeast Texas, Boy Scouts of America, Camp Fire USA, OCARC and many others.
In 2017, over 17,575 Orange County residents were served through the organizations partnered with United Way.
The 2019 campaign goal is $850,000.
