Golden K Kiwanis meeting

Golden K Kiwanis meets every Wed. from 9:30-10:30 a.m. in the meeting room of the Salvation Army Building, corner of MLK and Strickland, across from the Shell and fire station.  The public is welcome to attend, and coffee is always served. Initiation of local 2018-19 officers and committee members will take place on a special induction. Dr. Arlene Turkel, professor at Lamar State College-Orange, will give information about the literary and artistic anthology she heads, and the opportunity for Golden K members to submit items. Accompanying her will be a recruiter of senior citizens for LSC-O, supplying up-to-date information about senior groups.

Board of Directors of the Friends of the Orange Depot meeting

The bi-monthly meeting of the Board of Directors of the Friends of the Orange Depot will be held at 5 p.m., reception, 5:30 p.m. meeting, at the Orange Train Depot Museum, 1210 Green Avenue in Orange.

Starting this month, the meetings will be held on the SECOND Thursday every other month.  New volunteers are always welcome to attend and work on current fall projects. The museum committee is encouraging more participation as we move forward on the design and implementation of the museum exhibits.   A community building, the depot is available for reasonable rates for meetings and special events by contacting Depot Manager Rose Simar at 409-330-1576.

October Junk Days and Coleman Peveto BBQ Cook-Off

Join the Mauriceville Heritage Association the second weekend of October for a fun filled Friday evening and Saturday. Friday night, starting at 5 p.m. at 7441 Cohenour Road, will feature live music by Bronco Jr. under the pavilion as well as a non Non-Sanctioned BBQ Cook-Off (local backyard teams are welcome) BBQ plates will be available and some vendors will be set up. Saturday, Oct. 13

Keep Orange Clean

The Litter Squad will cleanup different locations throughout the city on the second Saturday of each month from 8 a.m. – 9 a.m. Locations will be determined and posted so that all groups and citizens are aware and encouraged to attend. Please bring gloves and wear appropriate attire.

 

October Junk Days and Coleman Peveto BBQ Cook-Off

Saturday come browse the unique finds in our vintage and junk market then swing by the community center for BBQ plate lunches & dinners with all the fixins. (Pre orders and to-go’s available). Bring the kids out Saturday for an amazing free kids zone full of activities from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and plan to visit the OCESD # 4 car show. The Saturday evening dance under the pavilion will feature Donice Morace with Dustin Kelley and Baylei McGowan ($3 cover charge after 5 pm) Event is located at 7441 Cohenour Road in Mauriceville. Fall Festival Fund Raiser

First United Methodist Church – Orange would like to invite you to its Fall Festival Fund Raiser on Saturday, October 13, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Family Life Center located at the corner of 5th  and Elm in Orange.

  • Brisket Dinners – $10 – 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
  • Live Action – Auction at Noon
  • Silent Action – Last Bid at 1:30 p.m.
  • Meals in a Minute (Frozen Meals) – Starting at $10
  • Sweet Shop
  • Plants

Monday, Oct. 15

Crochet Class

Crochet Class at 6:30 p.m. at Orange First Church of the Nazarene, 3810 M.L.K. Jr. Drive in Orange. The class is in the Dining Room behind the church. (Left side of the building)

Please bring a skein of Sports Weight yarn and a G hook. We are working on squares to be assembled into an afghan. You may keep your squares or donate them back. Donated squares will be assembled and donated to a local charity in December.
