A man running from police claimed he did not understand how he could get in trouble, according to a police report.

The man identified himself as Centarius Chavis when Orange Police officers apprehended him on Sunday.

Police had responded to a call of a robbery at 8:21 p.m. at the 300 block of West Burton Ave in Orange.

As law enforcement was responding, an individual matching the description of the robber was spotted walking through a grass field. When the officer turned on his sirens, the individual began running.

When Chavis was apprehended, he told the officer he “just stole the machine money” and did not understand how he could get in trouble.

Officer D. Mulhollan stated in his report, “I believed the suspect was referring to the eight liner machines in the store.”

Chavis, according to the police report, stated several times that the store did not have a license for the eight liner machines, so the money he took did not matter.

While searching Chavis, the officer discovered possible Ecstasy pills and $183.

Chavis faces charges for evading, a Class A, and possession of a controlled substance penalty Group 2, a State jail felony.
