While Bridge City native Chase Shugart will look to help lead the University of Texas Longhorns in their Super Regional in Austin against Tennessee Tech this weekend, he got even better news Wednesday morning as he was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 12th Round as the 370th pick overall in the Major League Draft.

The Longhorns are currently 40-20 overall and went 17-7 in Big 12 play to capture the regular season title.

Shugart, a junior, has drawn praise as a starter this year after coming out of the bullpen in his first two seasons in Austin.

Shugart owns a 5-3 record in 84 2/3 innings of work with 58 strikeouts.

He earned a win on the hill against Texas Southern in the first game of regional play against Texas Southern and came in to record the final two outs in their last game to earn a save against Indiana.

The Longhorns will host Tennessee Tech Saturday, Sunday and Monday, if necessary. The games on Saturday and Sunday start at 2 p.m.
