Walmart, Feeding America, and the Southeast Texas Food Bank have launched the fifth annual nationwide “Fight Hunger. Spark Change.” campaign online and in stores in an effort to secure resources sufficient to provide 200 million meals nationwide.

The campaign will run through April 30, offering the public four different ways to participate and earn support from Walmart for Feeding America and local food banks throughout the country, including the Southeast Texas Food Bank in Beaumont, which serves Hardin, Jasper, Jefferson, Newton, Orange, Polk, Sabine, and Tyler County residents.

  • Product purchases in Walmart stores or via Walmart.com through the end of April from any of 14 participating suppliers will generate a 10 cent donation to Feeding America to be shared with the food bank associated with a store’s geographic territory or the zip code of the person making an online order. Participating suppliers are: General Mills, Coca-Cola, Kellogg, Kraft-Heinz, Pepsi/Frito/Quaker, Bush Brothers, Clorox, Conagra, Motts, Unilever, Maruchan, Pinnacle Foods, Post, and JM Smuckers.
  • In-store donations in increments of $1, $2, or $5 or a customer specified amount to the Southeast Texas Food Bank at store registers or self-serve scanners upon the completion of checkout.
  • On-line acts of support by sharing or retweeting Facebook or Twitter posts about “Fight Hunger. Spark Change” or by Instagram posts using the hashtag #FightHunger or by visiting the “Fight Hunger. Spark Change.” website (Walmart.com/fighthunger). Support clicks on the website will generate $1 donations to Feeding America for distribution to local food banks and sharing of social media content will generate $10 donations.
  • Use of Walmart credit cards for in-store or online purchases will also generate 10 cent donations to the campaign.

“This campaign is a multi-faceted public-oriented hunger relief activity throughout the month of April”, said Dan Maher Executive Director of the Southeast Texas Food Bank. “Whether one is an in-store shopper, online shopper, or social media user, there are ways to help Walmart fight hunger in Southeast Texas. Walmart generously supports our food bank with tens of thousands of contributed dollars and product each year and this gives our community an opportunity to help that chain multiply its support.”
