What do women such as the one of the first Black actresses on Broadway, Osceola Macarthy Adams, or Sadie T.M. Aklexander, Ph.D. who was the nation’s first woman to earn a Ph.D. in economics (1921). A distinguished attorney, she was among the founders of the National Bar Association (1925) and she was appointed to President Truman’s Commission on Civil Rights (1945).

Or perhaps Brigadier General Hazel Johnson Brown, Ph.D who was the first African-American woman general in the United States Army, or Shirley Chisholm, the first Black woman member of the U.S. Congress, was the first African-American and first woman to run as a major party candidate for the presidency of the United States.

All these women were members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

The Orange Alumnae Chapter will host Guys in Ties: Young Men in Excellence Mentoring Program at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 24 at the Planning and Zoning Building located at 303 North 8^th Street in Orange.

This new program is to offer something for the young men in the community.

The organization is a private non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in the community.

High school seniors involved in the program will participate in social activities, educational development, etiquette and leadership skills. Each student must classify as a high school senior as of Fall 2017 and have a cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or higher on a four-point scale.

There is a $75 non-refundable participation fee.
