West Orange City Council adopted Ordinance 302-D that now allows HUD-Code Manufactured Homes, previously known at mobile homes, to be located in areas of the city not previously allowed, as long as the structure meets specific city ordinance guidelines noted in Section Seven A and B during the Tuesday evening meeting.

Ordinance 302-D states “Mobile homes and HUD-Code Manufactured Home” are prohibited in the City of West Orange outside approved HUD-Code manufactured home parks “with some exceptions” which opens up locations for residences previously off limits. The move by the City Council was an effort to assist citizens affected by Hurricane Harvey to have more options at their disposal to rebuild their lives.

Also approved is a 90-day extension of permits issued for temporary housing within the City that provides citizens with more time to receive insurance funds to work on repairing their homes. Code Enforcement Officer Dean Fuller said he is one of many citizens that have just begun to work on their houses.

“An extension will give relief to our citizens still struggling to rebuild,” Fuller said.

Mayor Roy McDonald announced all non-emergency departments of the City will be closed in observance of Christmas on Monday and Tuesday, December 25 and 26, 2017 and closed as well in observance of New Year’s on Monday and Tuesday, January 1 and 2, 2018.
