The BUG Program, Bringing Up Grades, was originated some years ago by the National Kiwanis organization to promote a child’s self confidence and esteem with positive reinforcement to improve grades in forms of such rewards as pencils, erasers, stickers, bookmarks, sunglasses, and t-shirts.

These items will be bought by Golden K Kiwanis and given to teachers as soon as the 1st six weeks’ grades are determined.  Tekoa Academy’s principal has already agreed to implement the BUG Program, and WOSE and Deweyville Elementary are submitting the BUG Program for each district’s School Board approval.

Golden K member Ted Williams has been working hard to get the BUG Program on track again in Orange.

Williams, a retired Deweyville teacher and coach, has been in Golden K for 15 years.

The schools also want photos of Golden K activities and would like to involve Golden K membership in the schools’ grandparent programs, which entail listening to kids read and, likewise, reading to the children.  It is a win-win situation for all.
