Tropical Storm Cindy Threatens Texas Coastal Communities

 BEAUMONT – As Tropical Storm Cindy takes aim at the Texas coast, the Texas Department of Public Safety is temporarily closing the driver license office in Orange County today at 12:00 p.m. The office is located at 711 Highway 87 in Orange.

Texas Department of Public Safety is temporarily closing the driver license offices in Jefferson County today at 2:00 p.m. The offices are located at 7200 Eastex Freeway in Beaumont and 900 4th Street in Port Arthur.

Based on the path of the storm and its impact in the area, the department may extend this temporary closure. The department will provide updated information to the public about the status of this office. Customers may also check the status of individual offices at: http://www.dps.texas.gov/administration/driver_licensing_control/rolodex/search.asp

Customers may continue to conduct driver license transactions at offices unaffected by the storm. DPS is also reminding customers that many Texans are eligible to forgo a trip to the office completely via online renewal of their license, identification card or change of address at www.Texas.gov. Customers can also renew by phone at 1-866-357-3639. The eligibility requirements for phone renewal and online renewal are the same. The fee is the same for online, in-person and telephone renewals.
