Jerry T. Hughes

Jerry was born in Orange, Texas on September 2, 1959, to Thomas and Dorothy Hughes. Jerry passed away on May 23, 2017 in Lakewood, Colorado at the age 57.

A gathering of family and friends will be held 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Monday, June 19, 2017, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Jerry grew up in the Riverside addition. He graduated at the top of his class from West Orange- Stark High School in 1978, which was the first WO-S class. After graduation he enrolled in the Nuclear Power Program in the United States Navy and spent most of his tour serving his country on a Nuclear Submarine as a certified United States Navy Diver. Jerry served seven years in the United States Navy and served several years in the Navy Reserve thereafter.

After leaving the Navy, he earned a Mechanical Engineering Degree at the University of Tennessee. Jerry had many friends and was loved by everyone who knew him. He loved to fish, hunt, play tennis and shoot pool. Cooking and listening to music were also hobbies that he enjoyed.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Ralph and Vera Lyons and Martin and Annie Hughes; and his parents, Tommy and Dorothy.

Jerry is survived by his sister, Karen (Redkey) Hughes; brother; Mike Hughes; step-father, David Pirtle; nieces, Holly Williams, Olivia Basinger, and Loren Hughes; nephew, Keaton Hughes; along with several aunts, uncles, cousins, and great nieces.

Jerry was a wonderful person and will be greatly missed. We love you Jerry.
