Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center hosting family-friendly educational programs

Every Wednesday, June 21 until August 16, 2017, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center will be hosting family-friendly educational programs. These programs are included with the cost of admission. Space is limited for Wild Wednesday Programs, so we request that you reserve a spot before each program by calling 409.670.0803 or on our website at shangrilagardens.org.

Wild Wednesday Programs and Schedule

  • June 21—Amphibian Adventure
    Amphibians are awesome creatures that require an adventure to investigate. Join us on an adventure where we will play games to discover features of amphibians and even get the chance to meet one.
  • June 28—Beyond the Bird Blind*
    Bring the family on an adventure to explore the other side of our Heronry. Then, create a make and take bird feeder to support birds living in your own backyard. Note: this class may include walking through some uneven or challenging terrain. Please wear comfortable shoes.
  • July 5—Tricks of Tracking*
    During this family program, we will search for signs left behind by animals and learn how to track animals using these clues. Join us for this basic program to solve the mystery of who’s been where. Note: this class may include walking through some uneven or challenging terrain. Please wear comfortable shoes.
  • July 12—Adopt a Pet Rock
    Come on over to Shangri La and adopt a new family Pet Rock. In this program we will discover how to find the perfect rock then have a chance to decorate it and really bring the rock to life!
  • July 19—Behind the Scenes Scavenger Hunt*
    Take a trip along our back trails with the whole family to investigate the unseen! Make a mini museum to take home so you can share your adventure with friends and family. Note: this class may include walking through some uneven or challenging terrain. Please wear comfortable shoes.
  • July 26—Scale Secrets
    In this program we will investigate the scales of different critters, including those on live animals. Bring the whole family to discover the secrets of scales.
  • August 2—Storytime Safari
    This family friendly program begins with story time in the Children’s Garden then we will bring the story to life by seeking out real world versions of Dr. Seuss characters. Everyone will leave thinking of ways to Be Kind to Their World.
  • August 9—Snail Tales
    Bring the entire family to explore the gardens and meet the snails of Shangri La. Then, we will make a suitable snail shack so everyone can take home a new snail friend.
  • August 16—Portable Pots
    Explore the ins and outs of indoor container gardening in this family friendly program. Join us to get your hands dirty and leave with your own tiny garden to keep indoors.
