At approximately 7:00a.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to a two vehicle crash at the intersection of US 69 and FM 420 in Hardin County.

Initial reports indicate that a 2012 Ford pickup truck was traveling northbound on US 69.  A 1997 Ford Explorer was traveling westbound on FM 420.  The driver of the Ford Explorer failed to yield the right of way at the stop sign and pulled out in front of the pickup truck.  The Ford pickup truck struck the Ford Explorer in the driver side door.  Both vehicles came to rest off the roadway in a wooded area.

The driver of the Ford Explorer, a 26-year-old male from Kountze, was flown by medical helicopter to St. Elizabeth hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the Ford pickup truck, Ronald Roth, 58, of Kountze, was transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth hospital.  His injuries do not appear to be life threatening.

All northbound traffic lanes of US 69, near FM 420, were closed for about two(2) hours, but have since reopened.
