Vera L. Gords

Vera L. Gords of San Antonio, TX, passed away Thursday, May 18, 2017. Vera was born in Orange, TX on September 29, 1950 to Rosa Stewart Watson and the late Ike Watson. She graduated from Lutcher Stark High School and Stephen F. Austin University. Vera married Robert Gords in July 1974 and they have two children.
Vera was a dedicated teacher having taught at West Orange Jr. High, an elementary school in Barcelona, Spain, and Leon Springs Elementary school in San Antonio. She retired in 2012 after more than 40 years as a teacher.
She was preceded in death by her father, her brothers, Edward Watson and Gregory Watson, her sister, Rosa Wright, and her mother-in-law, Priscilla Gords.
Vera is survived by her husband Robert, her son Jeremy, and her daughter Kari Cortez (Aaron), all of San Antonio; her mother Rosa Watson of Orange; three sisters: Patty Ruffin (Gregory), Houston, TX, Frances Willis (J.T.), Richton Park, IL, and Del Watson, Austin, TX; brother- and sister-in-law Worth and Mattie Gords, Monroe, LA; sister-in-law Greeta Watson, Orange; brother-in-law Reginald Wright, Orange; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and very close friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., on Saturday, May 27, 2017, at Mount Olive Baptist Church, 106 W. Park, Orange, Texas. Visitation will begin at 9:00 A.M. and burial will follow at Magnolia Memorial Gardens. Arrangements entrusted to Calvary Mortuary, 1225 S. 7th Street, Beaumont, Texas 77701.
