Liberty Hill ends tremendous Lady Bears season

MADISONVILLE — The top-ranked Liberty Hill Lady Panthers showed their might Friday as they ended a superb Little Cypress-Mauriceville season by downing the Lady Bears 9-0 in Game Two to wrap up the Class 4A Region III semifinal series at Madisonville High School.

Abby Covington got the complete-game win on the hill for the Lady Panthers (35-1). She allowed five hits while fanning two and walking one.

LC-M (24-10) senior Jenna James wrapped up a solid career but absorbed the loss as she went six innings, allowing 11 hits while striking out seven and walking three.

The Lady Panthers collected 27 hits in the series, including 16 in a 14-6 Game One victory Thursday.

Liberty Hill tallied three runs on four hits in the bottom of the first.

Crissa Garza reached on a leadoff single past third and Sam Barnett crushed a Jenna James’ offering deep over the left centerfield fence for a two-run homer.

Joely Williamson followed with a single up the middle and came home off a RBI double by Kenzie Coleman to right to make it 3-0.

The Lady Panthers scored a run in the bottom of the second as Garza singled by third again and scored on a Barnett single up the middle.

Liberty Hill struck again in the bottom of the fourth, scoring three runs.

Garza slapped a leadoff single over third and Williamson was hit by a pitch. Jessika Truax roped a deep RBI double to the left centerfield gap to score Garza for the third time. Kenzie Coleman reached on an error at third as both Williamson and Truax were both able to score.

The Lady Bears made a threat in the top of the fifth when Joanna Henry had a leadoff double and Jonee Villanueva reached on an infield single but Covington got two flyouts and a groundout to get out of it.

Senior Ashley Short had a pair of hits for the Lady Bears, one in the second inning and the other in the seventh. Madison Murdock had a single to center in the third.

Piling up 16 hits and hitting three home runs ,the Lady Panthers downed LC-M 14-6 in Game One.

The Lady Panthers received four hits apiece from their leadoff hitter Garza and Barnett.

Amber Wiggins got the win on the hill for Liberty Hill. She went the distance, scattering 11 hits while fanning three as LC-M had a solid night at the plate as well.

Brianna Frenzel and Renna Toomey both pitched for LC-M. Frenzel tossed the first inning. Toomey worked the next 2 2/3 innings and Frenzel finished it up.

The Lady Panthers struck in the top of the first inning off Frenzel.

Barnett had a one-out single between first and second base and scored when Truax belted a two-run home run deep over the left centerfield fence.

Frenzel countered nicely though with two outs in the bottom of the first when she took a Wiggins’ offering a delivered it over the centerfield wall to trim it to 2-1.

Liberty Hill put up four runs in the top half of the second as Renna Toomey took the mound for the Lady Bears.

Two consecutive Lady Bear errors allowed Kandyn Faurie and Ashton Doerner to reach and Ashley Gatlin drew a walk to load the bases.

Garza belted a two-run single to push it to 4-1. Barnett scored a run with a RBI single up the middle and Williamson plated the sixth run with a RBI groundout.

The Lady Bears struck again in the bottom of the third.

Olivia Leavings roped a leadoff double and Jenna James singled to center with one out. Renna Toomey made it 6-2 with a RBI single to left that scored courtesy runner Emily Landry. Short walked to load the bases and Joanna Henry slapped a RBI single up the middle that brought home James.

The Lady Panthers piled up five runs in the top of the fourth.

Logan Oehler had a leadoff double to centerfield and Garza followed with an infield single. Barnett made it 8-3 with a two-run single up the middle.

With two outs, Coleman slapped a RBI double and Faurie came up with a two-run home run blast to push it to 11-3.

Doerner had a single up the middle and Gatlin reached on a single as Toomey was replaced by Frenzel on the LC-M hill. Frenzel got Oehler to fly out to end the threat.

LC-M struck for a run in the bottom of the fourth.

Jonee Villanueva had a leadoff single to center and Murdock reached on a single. Leavings moved the runners over with a groundout and Frenzel brought in her second run of the night with a RBI groundout.

Liberty Hill went up 12-4 in the top of the fifth.

Garza had a leadoff single and went all the way to third on a two-base error and scored on a wild pitch.

The Lady Panthers tacked on another run in the top of the sixth when Coleman stroked a leadoff solo homer.

Liberty Hill added a run in the top of the seventh.

Garza reached on a one-out single and scored on a Barnett RBI single.

The Lady Bears scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Toomey had a leadoff single and scored off an error after a ball hit by Short. Short was able to dart in to score off a Henry infield single.

 

Covington drew a one-out walk and went to second off a Logan Oehler infield single. Garza came up huge again, bringing in two more runs with a slicing double.
