Gonzales, Bobcats stop Hornets in Game One

LUFKIN — The Orangefield Bobcats, getting a big mound performance by sophomore Mason Gonzales, took down the Lufkin Hudson Hornets 2-1 in Game One of their best-of-three Class 4A Region III playoff series Friday night at Hudson High School.

Game Two of the series shifts back to Orangefield today at noon followed by Game Three if necessary.

Gonzales worked six innings, allowing just four hits while striking out four and walking two.

Ryon Stubblefield pitched the seventh frame to earn the save, allowing a hit while fanning two.

The Bobcats struck for both of their runs in the top of the first inning.

Stubblefield and Johnny Armstrong scored the Bobcat runs. Armstrong knocked in Stubblefield for a run.

The Hornets snared their only run in the bottom of the sixth.

The Orangefield-Lufkin Hudson winner will face either Hardin-Jefferson or Houston Washington in the area round.
