Softball playoffs all set for area round

The Bridge City Lady Cardinals, Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears and Orangefield Lady Bobcats have their Class 4A Region III Area Round softball playoffs battles set for the end of the week.

The District 22-4A champion Lady Cardinals will take on District 23-3A runnerup Liberty in a best-of-three series Friday and Saturday.

Game One will be Friday at 5 p.m. at Crosby High School. Game Two will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Port Arthur Memorial High School. Game Three, if necessary, will follow 30 minutes after Game Two.

The Lady Cardinals downed Jasper 6-1 in the bidistrict round while the Lady Panthers bombed Houston Yates 23-0.

The Lady Bears, District 22-4A runnerups, will tangle with 23-4A champion Huffman in a best-of-three series Friday and Saturday.

Game One is Friday at 7p.m. at Port Neches-Groves High School. Game Two is Saturday at noon at Crosby High School. Game Three, if necessary, will follow 30 minutes after Game Two.

The Lady Bears swept Diboll 3-1 and 12-6 in the bidistrict round while the Lady Falcons buried Houston Wheatley 19-0. The LC-M-Huffman winner will face either Huntington or Tarkington in the regional quarterfinals.

The Lady Bobcats, the fourth-place team out of District 22-4A, will face Hardin-Jefferson, the third-place team out of District 23-4A, in a one-game series. The game will be played Friday at 5 p.m. at Port Neches-Groves High School.

The Lady Bobcats fended off District 21-4A champion Lufkin Hudson in the bidistrict round while the Lady Hawks crushed Houston Washington 30-0.

If Bridge City and Orangefield both win, they will face each other in the regional quarterfinals the next week.
