City of Pinehurst and Sabine FCU to host shred it and forget it

The city of Pinehurst and Sabine Federal Credit Union will jointly host Shred Day for Pinehurst residents. Saturday, April 29th from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM Area residents can bring their personal documents for permanent shredding from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 29 at Sabine Federal Credit Union parking lot at 1939 Strickland Drive. Personal records, old tax returns, financial statements, and file folders will be accepted. Representatives from the credit union and the city of Pinehurst will be available to assist the public in destroying their sensitive documents.

The city will also host its annual Spring Cleanup day, April 8, from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m. A dumpster will be set up in the parking lot of the old Parker Lumber building in the 2700 block of MacArthur Drive. Pinehurst residents are encouraged to clean up their property during this Spring Cleanup and drop off items for disposal that morning.

Harry Vine, Code Enforcement Officer, reports the renovation of Wienerschnitzel restaurant is progressing. Based on current progress, the restaurant located on MacArthur Drive should reopen by mid to late April.

Vine presented a recommendation to council to take action condemning the property at 2500 MacArthur Drive. Shahid Sadaruddin of Houston owns the property. Sadaruddin attended the meeting to present to council his plans for demolition and renovation of the property. Council accepted Vine’s recommendation to condemn the property allowing Sadaruddin 45 days to demolish and remove the structure on the property.

Vine is also pursuing the property owners at 4042 West Park for possible condemnation action.

West Park, the city’s park, located in the 3400 block of West Park Ave now features a walking track. Eagle Scout candidate, Adrian Willingham, will install chairs and a table providing an area where visitors can relax and read.

Fire Chief Shon Branham announced firemen would be hosting a ‘fill a boot’ event Saturday, April 9, at the corner of Strickland and Martin. Donations will be used to fund the operation of the volunteer fire department.
