Diamond wrap: Teams pick up tourney wins

HALLETSVILLE — The Orangefield Bobcats played two games in the Hallettsville Tournament this weekend, before getting rained out on Saturday.

In game one, the Bobcats fell to Wharton 5-0.  Despite five errors on the game, the Bobcats battled back in the last inning, loading the bases with no outs before a line drive double play ended the threat. Brett Fregia led the Bobcats with two hits on the day.
In game two, the Bobcats hammered Odem 13-0.  Ryon Stubblefield pitched a complete game, allowing two hits with nine strikeouts to earn the win.  Mason Gonzales, Ryon Stubblefield, Mack Patterson, and Andrew Hoyland led the Bobcats offensively with multi-hit games.  the Bobcats are now 9-2 on the season, and will travel to The Woodlands Christian Academy on Thursday for their final tune up before district play begins.

JASPER — The Bridge City Cardinals wrapped up the Jasper Tournament with a 2-2 mark.

The Cardinals belted Bullard 16-3 on Thursday.

On Friday, the Cardinals fell to Central Heights 3-2 and defeated Diboll 12-1.

Against Central Heights, Gavin Green and Logan Hamm had two hits apiece while Kevin Gordon had one. Hamm and Caleb Dubois each had a RBI.

Against Diboll, Schuyler Thibodaux had a huge outing, collecting three hits while driving in four runs. Justyn Romero produced twoRBI while Taran Burch nabbed the win on the hill.

On Saturday, the Cardinals dropped a tight 6-5 decision to Jasper.

Dubois had a pair of hits and drove in a run while Brady Coulter had a RBI.

WO-S, LC-M scores

The West Orange-Stark Mustangs competed in the Jasper Tournament and Little Cypress-Mauriceville was in the Waco Midway Tournament over the weekend.

The Mustangs defeated Kirbyville 10-3, tied Bullard1-1 and fell to Nederland 5-0 and to Jasper 6-2.

The Bears went 2-2 in Waco, defeating Giddings 7-3 and Pearland Christian 5-1and falling to Cuero 3-0 and to Waco Midway 8-5.
