Four local girls advance to State Power Meet

EDNA — Four local powerlifters will be advancing to the Class 4A State Powerlifting Meet after posting big numbers at the Regional Meet Thursday.

The Bridge City Girl’s Powerlifting Team participated in the Region 4 Division 2 Regional Powerlifting Meet and placed fourth overall.

Eleven girls from Bridge City participated in the meet of those, six placed. Junior Shania Dies placed first in her weight class, which qualified her for the State Meet. Freshman Gracie Martin placed fifth. Sophomore Lacey Pender placed second, which also qualified her for state. Junior Maggie Garcia placed third. Senior Carlee Dearing placed first, which qualified her for state too. Senior Sam Hargrave placed fifth overall. All the girls gave it everything they had Dies, Pender and Dearing will be headed to Waco to lift in the THSWPA State Meet on March 17.

The Orangefield girl’s powerlifting team competed at the regional meet in Edna on Thursday. The lifters consisted of Madison Taylor, Linh Tsan, Mclane Downs and Julia Droll.  Linh Tsan placed 6th, Julia Droll placed 7th, Mclane Downs placed 8th and Madison Taylor placed 2nd in the 123-pound division with a total lift of 710 lbs..  Taylor advances to the state meet held in Waco on March 17th.
