Lady Cardinals edge past Lady Bears, 34-33

BRIDGE CITY — The Bridge City Lady Cardinals topped the Little Cypresss-Mauricville Lady Bears 34-33 Tuesday night in Bridge City in District 22-4A action as the Lady Cardinals kept their playoff hopes alive.

The game was hard fought and went back and forth all night until the exciting conclusion.

Kassidy Wilbur, for the Cardinals, lead the team in points with 12 points. Hannah Weigraffe also had seven of her own to help the Cardinals win.

The win pushes the Lady Cardinals to 3-5 in 22-4A play while the Lady Bears slipped to 4-4.

Chelsea Perry, for the Bears, led the team with 12 points as well including a late three-pointer. Alyssa McKeller had five points and went 3-for-4 from the free-throw line.

Bridge City’s Reyna Owens opened it up quick for the Lady Cardinals putting up four early points in the first quarter, along with Maysen Tyler scoring the other two for the Lady Cards. The Lady Cardinalss had a strong defense and only gave up two points in the first quarter. Bridge City was up 6-2 at the end of the first in what was a defensive slugfest.

LC-M came back fast in the second quarter with the help of Kayla Dominguez putting up four in the quarter. The Lady Bears put up 10 in the second quarter while only allowing six points for the Cardinals, tying up the game at 12-12 going into half time.

Wilbur found her shot, hitting a deep three-pointer to help put the Lady Cardinals up 21-18 late in the third quarter. Bridge City’s defense stood strong in the quarter, only giving up six points.

Perry tried to help the Lady Bears go up late with five late points including a late three-pointer to make it a one-point game with six seconds left. It was all for not, as the Cardinals were able to stay on top late and win a thriller in a tight affair.

The Lady Bears will return home Friday to take on Orangefield while the Lady Cardinals visit West Orange-Stark.
