With Wednesday’s arrest, Lake Charles Police Department makes arrest in every murder case in 2016

Press Release — On Wednesday, November 30th, 2016, Officers with the Lake Charles Police Department were dispatched to 3046 Opelousas Street, in reference to a man being shot. Upon Officers arrival, Officers discovered Phillip Babineaux had been shot and unconscious. Mr. Babineaux was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

On Wednesday, January 18th, 2017, Detectives with the Lake Charles Police Department working with members of the Lake Charles Police Department’s SWAT team, located and arrested Aaron Joseph Stevens Jr., 22 years of age, residing at 2015 Legion Street in Lake Charles. Mr. Joseph has been charged with attempted armed robbery, attempted armed robbery with a firearm, and 2nd degree murder. Mr. Joseph’s bond has been set at $1.4 million by 14th Judicial District Judge Clayton Davis.

Mr. Babineaux’s murder investigation is ongoing. Detectives are asking the public to contact the Lake Charles Police Department at 337.491.1311 and ask for Detective Sgt. Colby Thompson or Detective Willie Fontenot if you have any information concerning Mr. Babineaux’s murder.

The Lake Charles Police Department investigated 9 murders in 2016. Eight of the nine murders resulted in an arrest in 2016.

With yesterday’s arrest, the Lake Charles Police Department has made an arrest in each and every murder case that was investigated in 2016.
