Bobcats fend off Hawks on the road

SOUR LAKE – The Orangefield Bobcats went on the road and picked up a huge win Friday night by downing the Hardin-Jefferson 17-15 at Hawk Stadium in District 12-4A Division II play.

The win secured the third-place playoff spot out of 12-4A with the win.
Orangefield received a huge game from back Christopher McGee and a stout defensive effort to thwart the Hawks.
The Bobcats pushed their mark to 5-4 overall and more importantly 2-2 in 12-4A play. H-J slips to 6-3 overall and 1-3 in district. The Hawks will take on Hamshire-Fannett next week to decide fourth-place.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Bobcats tacked on 14 unanswered points to lead 14-0 at the half.
McGee got things rolling when he bolted 75 yards for a touchdown to help put the Bobcats up 7-0 with 5:27 left in the half.
The Hawks saw a bad snap on a 38-yard field goal attempt as Bobcat Zach Dischler fell on the loose ball.
Caleb Kress set up the Bobcats’ next score when he picked off a Hawk pass.
McGee and the offensive line found paydirt again wth just 0:12 left in the half when he scooted for a 27-yard touchdown jaunt.
The Bobcats put together a nice drive in the third quarter getting all the way down to the Hawk 5 before settling for a 22-yard field goal to push the lead to 17-0 with 6:09 left in the third.

The Hawks made things interesting for sure late.

Running back Talon Tilley capped off a drive with a five-yard touchdown run and H-J converted a two-point conversion to trim it to 17-8 with 2:59 remaining.

The Hawks then recovered a nicely executed onside kick to take the ball over again.

The Hawks turned the ball over with an interception but were able to score again when Dylin Walker scooped up a Bobcat fumble and returned it 15 yards for a touchdown with 2:28 remaining.

The Bobcats were able to hold on though as they walked away with the big two-point win.
