Lady Bears down Silsbee to share 22-3A co-title

LITTLE CYPRESS – The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears fought hard to be co-champions of District 22-3A and they certainly earned it with a 25-22, 23-25, 17-25, 25-19, 15-9 victory over the Silsbee Lady Tigers at The Bear Cave Tuesday night.

The LC-M (28-13, 9-1) puts the Lady Bears in a tie with the Lady Tigers (9-1) for the crown.

The two teams will play again to determine playoff seeding likely Friday at 5:30 p.m. at either Buna or Evadale.

Renna Toomey and Ally White paced the LC-M attack with 21 kills apiece. Madison Taggart chimed in with 13 and Kaitlin Avery contributed 9.

Silsbee had big efforts from Symone Carmenar and Mallorie Brooks.

Carmenar pounded out a match-high 26 kills while Brooks had 22. Brandis Bass added 13 kills for the Lady Tigers.

Toomey served up 15 points for the Lady Bears while Kayla Dominguez, who set up the LC-M offense well all night, had 12 kills and an ace. Taggart had nine points while Avery had six and Isa Weizenegger added five.

Chelsea Mouton served up 13 points for the Lady Tigers. Cassie Tolleson had 11 points and two aces while Brooks, Kennedy Sam and Breanna Tackett each had seven points.

The Lady Bears dominated the decisive fifth game, storming out to a 10-3 cushion. The Lady Tigers got to within five twice but the Lady Bears controlled it the whole way.

The Lady Bears scored eight of the final 11 points in Game Four to force a fifth game.

The Lady Tigers jumped out to a big lead in Game Three and held on.

LC-M led Game Two 21-20 only to see the Lady Tigers score five of the final seven points.

The Lady Bears went on a run to lead Game One 24-17 and held off the Lady Tigers.
