PASADENA – After getting humbled at home by Barbers Hill in their season opener last week, the Vidor Pirates responded in a big way Thursday night.

Vidor stormed their way over to Pasadena and put a 21-0 hurting on Pasadena Memorial.

The Pirates (1-1) piled up 317 yards of total offense, churning out huge numbers with their running game.

Vidor, however, showed the most improvement on the defensive side of the ball as they limited Pasadena Memorial (1-1) to just 72 total yards.

Pirate back Kolbie Humble broke loose for a 78-yard touchdown jaunt in the first quarter only to see it come back due to a clipping penalty,

However, the Pirates did not let that phase them.

Senior Pirate tailback Haylon Leckelt capped off a huge 12-play, 86-yard scoring march when he scored from 12 yards out at the start of the second quarter.

The Pirates upped their margin to 13-0 when quarterback Maverick Quirante finished off a 71-yard drive with a four-yard touchdown dart.

Quirante put the game on ice with 4:21 left in the game when he bolted into the end zone from 12 yards out.

Quirante torched Memorial for 155 yards and two scores on 24 totes while Leckelt zipped for 109 yards on 16 carries.

It was certainly a nice turnaround for the Pirates, who will begin District 22-5A action next Saturday when they visit the Thomas Center to take on Beaumont Central.
