Lady Pirates fend off Lady Bobcats in four

ORANGEFIELD — Behind the hitting of Kennidee Willis and Brooke Smith, the Deweyville Lady Pirates fended off the Orangefield Lady Bobcats 25-11, 25-21, 15-25, 25-23 in non-district volleyball action at Bobcat Gym Tuesday night.

After being down 2-0, the Lady Bobcats scratched their way back to win Game Three and led Game Four 19-14 only to see the Lady Pirates score 11 of the next 15 points to take the match.

Willis had another huge night for the Lady Pirates as she collected 25 kills while Smith chimed in with 17 while Kayla McNeil and Grace Nicholson added three apiece.

Winter Watts had her service game working for the Lady Pirates as she finished with 14 points and an ace.

Willis had 11 points and two aces. McNeil served up eight points while Smith also contributed eight points and four aces.

While Madyson Berry finished with five points.

Ashlyn Turley paced the Lady Bobcats with eight kills while Shelby Perales and Anna VanPelt had seven apiece. Bailee Click added four kills while Devany Crain had three.

Crain had an excellent service game, finishing with 12 points and an ace.

VanPelt finished with 10 points and an ace. Click had six points and an ace while Perales had four points and Turley and Evie Arceneaux each had three points and an ace.

The Lady Bobcats downed Anahuac 26-24, 27-25, 25-22 last Friday.

The West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs defeated the Hemphill Lady Hornets 19-25, 25-21, 25-17, 22-25, 15-7 on Friday while the Bridge City Lady Cardinals swept the Beaumont Central Lady Jaguars 3-0.

At the Dickinson Tournament Saturday, the Lady Pirates toppled Danbury 2-1, Bridge City 2-1 and Baytown Lee 2-0 while the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears defeated Brazosport 25-23, 25-20 and fell to Beaumont West Brook 25-20, 25-10.

LC-M will visit West Brook Friday while Bridge City welcomes Kirbyville, Orangefield visits Buna and WO-S hosts Central.
