Weekend weather

The National Weather Service in Lake Charles is expected a chance for showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. Any storms that develop have a chance to become severe, with large hail and damaging winds the primary threat. Rain totals will be between 0.25″ and 1.00″, with the higher values in south central Louisiana, and the lower ones in southeast Texas.

Along the rivers, the Sabine River will slowly fall this weekend into next week. Water is receding out of the city of Orange and areas north of I-10, but further upstream, standing water will linger in the Deweyville and Starks areas. The Calcasieu River is cresting at Old Town Bay now, and will slowly fall this weekend. The Red River at Alexandria is still rising and will crest this weekend. Flooding in northern Rapides and northern Avoyelles Parishes is expecting along the Red River this weekend. The Atchafalaya River at Morgan City is slowly rising,a nd will crest near 7.5 ft by next Friday March 25th.
People working outdoors today and tonight should listen for thunder, and go indoors when lightning is nearby. When driving in the rain, watch out for flooded roads.
