PINEHURST — Citizens showed their support for those on the front lines in Pinehurst through donations to purchase ‘In God We Trust’ decals for all 18 city vehicles.
OCARC Signs & Engraving produced the decals and placed them on the vehicles Monday morning.
“All the funds used for the decals were from private donations,” Pinehurst City Administrator Robbie Hood said.
Hood said he would not release the names of the individuals who made the donations but did say the action showed the support the citizens have for the city.
“I love it,” Chief of Pinehurst Volunteer Fire Department said. “You hear negativity about separation of church and state all the time. It is on our money, so why not?”
Laborer with Pinehurst Public Works, Justin Trahan, said it shows the support of the citizens.
Councilman Dan Mohon said it is something the majority wants.
“I think it is great. The motto was passed in 1956 by Congress and has been on our coins since 1864,” Mohon said. “Citizens paid for it, not the city. You have to think this is what most Americans want.”
