At approximately 6:00am, the Texas Department of Public Safety received a report of a two vehicle crash at the intersection of FM 1293 and FM 1003 in Hardin County.  The crash occurred in the small community of Honey Island.

A 2005 Ford pickup truck was traveling southbound on FM 1003 and came to a stop at the intersection of FM 1003 and FM 1293.  A 1997 Ford pickup truck was traveling westbound on FM 1293.  As the driver of the 2005 Ford pickup truck attempted to make a left turn onto FM 1293, his vehicle was struck by the 1997 Ford pickup truck.  At this time, it appears that the driver of the 2005 Ford pickup truck Failed to Yield Right of Way-Stop Sign.

The driver of the 2005 Ford pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene by Judge Tommy Hall.  He has been identified as a 64-year-old man from Honey Island; however, his name is being withheld until next of kin notifications are made.  The driver of the 1997 Ford pickup truck, Brandon Lowry, 26, of Vidor, was transported to St. Elizabeth hospital.  Lowry’s injuries do not appear to be life threatening.

All lanes of FM 1293 have reopened.

Troopers continue to investigate this fatal crash
