The Leaf and Petal Garden Club has planted three Natchez white crepe myrtles trees for the last three completed Habitat for Humanity-Orange homes, in Carpenters Village on Carpenter Place Drive in Orange.

Construction of the thirty Habitat for Humanity –Orange homes began in 1995. Habitat for Humanity is an international, non-governmental, and nonprofit organization, which was founded in 1976. Habitat has been devoted to building “simple, decent, and affordable” housing, and has addressed the issues of poverty housing all over the world by creating housing for qualified families using volunteers from the community with support from local funding. Families buying their houses contributed over 300 hours of volunteer time buying their homes at labor cost. Weldon Townsend is President of Habitat for Humanity- Orange with Dick Behnke as head of construction.

The Leaf and Petal Garden Club, as part of their city of Orange beautification projects, began to plant crepe myrtle trees at each of the Humanity homes in 1996.  The planting on Thursday completed this project for the beauty and enjoyment for all residents.
