Lady Bears use big 2nd half to down WO-S

LITTLE CYPRESS — Trailing 22-21 at the half, the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears used a big second half to turn back the West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs 54-43 in the District 24-4A opener for both teams at The Bear Cave.

The Lady Mustangs went up 22-21 at the half after Eriel Jordan buried a three-point bomb at the buzzer.

The Lady Bears, however, took control in the third and fourth quarters behind the inside efforts of Sheridan Rogers and Kaitlin McCallon and point guard Grace Chen.

The Lady Bears went on a 15-8 run in the third period to snag a 36-30 lead going into the fourth.

The Lady Bears kept the Lady Mustangs at bay in the final eight minutes with a nice effort from the free-throw line, in which they canned 12-of-16 from the charity stripe.

Chen led the Lady Bears with 16 points while also grabbing five rebounds.

McCallon and Rogers both turned in double-doubles for the night, both scoring 11 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.

Alia Brown chimed in with 12 points and five boards for the Lady Bears. Brown kept things tight for the Lady Bears in the second quarter in which she connected on three three-point shots.

The Lady Bear win offset a superb performance by Lady Mustang Jordan. Jordan finished with a game-high 22 points and game-high 12 rebounds. She scored 13 points in the first half.

Daisha Broussard chimed in with nine points and five boards for WO-S while Nakaiya Platt added seven points and seven rebounds.

The Lady Bears finished with a 42-37 rebounding edge.

WO-S finished with 24 turnovers while LC-M had 17.

The Lady Bears finished 19-of-30 from the free-throw line while WO-S made just 4-of-13.
