Howdy Orange County! We have had a busy fall here in the AgriLife Extension Office, and we can’t wait for 2016. Over the past few months, we have had several programs in the topics of gardening, lawn care, raising poultry, cattle, beekeeping, and even canning! In October, we had the annual Beef Symposium here in Orange County this year with over 100 attendees. This past month we just finished the Master Gardener Training where 13 individuals received a crash course in horticulture and what it means to be a Master Gardener. We have even started a 4H Horse club, a 4H county horse judging team that meets every Wednesday at 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm, 4H Horse quiz bowl, and several other great opportunities. If your child is interested in any of this activities please contact the office. This month we will be having a lot of end of the year socials, Christmas Socials, and this year we are having Volunteer Appreciation for all the volunteers that have helped us have the year we have had.

I am working hard getting 2016 planned for some great Programs for Orange County! With that said I wouldn’t be an Ag Agent if I did not throw in some agriculture advice! I want to remind everyone to be aware of the fast changing weather conditions, this means take precautions for your water lines, plants, and animals. For livestock, remember hay more versus more grain with drastic temperature drops, make salt available to insure adequate water intake, and make available plenty of warm dry shelter for all critters!
