A long standing Orange County Christmas tradition returns to help children unable to have a Christmas.

The Service League of Orange and Salvation Army presents the 59^th Annual Toy Coffee from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 4 at First Presbyterian Church located at 902 Green Ave. in Orange.

The church was first organized in 1878 as a “Lutcher Memorial.”  It was one of the earliest air-conditioned buildings in the United States.  The three windows in the upper foyer (sanctuary level) were prize-winning works of art from the Chicago World Fair in 1853. The windows are made of opalescent stained glass, not Tiffany, similar to opals, with metallic oxide, giving the glimmering effect, which intensifies according to the lighting and time of day. This is why the windows are referred to as “living art”.

The event, last year, collected 507 toys, along with $3570 from 352 guests who attended The Toy Coffee event.

In the past six years, more than 2,300 people have attended, 2,800 toys collected and approximately $24,000 was raised by the Annual Toy Coffee.

Admission to the annual event is for guests to bring a new, unwrapped toy or a monetary donation. The toys and monetary donations are provided to the Salvation Army of Orange County, which, in turn, uses these toys to help fill the Christmas wishes of hundreds of children across the area.

The event is held annually by the Service League of Orange, which was founded in 1954. The first Toy Coffee was held in 1956 and has been going strong every year since then.
