Have you heard that some folks may want your vote? March 1, 2016 you will have another opportunity to either cast your vote or give up that right. Today through December 14 candidates must file to be listed on the Primary Ballot. When the filing deadline expires, campaigning could begin for a number of important slots. Party nominees will square off in the general election November 8, 2016. Only time will reveal who may seek what offices. Potentially voters could be choosing nominees for two District Judges, County Attorney, Sheriff, Tax Assessor Collector, two Precinct Commissioners, four constables and a County Court At Law Judge.

Another important date is May 7, 2016. This is the day set aside for municipal, school, port and drainage elections.

Eligible voters must be registered thirty days prior to an election to cast a ballot. Don’t procrastinate. Right now there is only a little more than three months before primary election day. If you are like me, it is easy to see that as plenty time. But it will sneak up on you.

And last but not least, inform yourself. We will seek to do our part to provide candidate profiles and offer endorsements. Stay tuned and in the meantime get registered.
