Special to The Leader

The Gift of Life will present its prestigious Julie Rogers Corporate “Spirit of Love” Award to the Wilton & Effie Mae Hebert Foundation, represented by president James Black, on Thursday, October 29 at the Julie Rogers Theatre during the organization’s 20th Anniversary Legacy of Love Concert: Oh What a Night! with Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. Other foundation trustees in addition to Black are Joe Vernon and Catherine Bruney.

The Corporate “Spirit of Love” Award annually recognizes organizations that have exemplified unparalleled dedication, commitment and spirit in the fight against cancer.

This year, the prestigious award will be presented to the Wilton & Effie Mae Hebert Foundation for its community leadership and shared mission of providing vital healthcare for individuals in need.

Founded in 1985, the Hebert Foundation strives to further the inspiring legacy of Wilton and Effie Mae Hebert, who dedicated their lives to compassionately serving the less fortunate in the community. As a lasting testament to the family’s extraordinary impact, the Hebert Foundation continues to bless the lives of those in need by making available grants to local charitable organizations.

For more than 15 years, the Hebert Foundation has significantly impacted the lives of medically underserved Southeast Texans through its support of the Gift of Life’s free mammogram and prostate cancer screening programs. Since 2000, the foundation has annually sponsored two Gift of Life mammography van sites, making available nearly 1,000 free breast cancer screenings and helping extend the lives of four women who were diagnosed with breast cancer at Hebert Foundation-sponsored sites and navigated through treatment. Additionally, thousands of men have received free prostate cancer screenings at Gift of Life events sponsored by the Hebert Foundation and other generous contributors. Our heartfelt gratitude to the Wilton & Effie Mae Hebert Foundation for helping the Gift of Life save lives.

The Gift of Life’s Legacy of Love concert will be headlined by the iconic Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons and will celebrate the organization’s 20 years of saving lives in Southeast Texas. Proceeds raised from the event will benefit the organization’s breast and ovarian cancer initiatives.
