Human feces lead to store closing for three hours

Texas Country Store #10, 9508 Hwy. 12 in Mauriceville, was recently closed for just over three hours when the Orange County Health and Code Compliance Inspector found no hot water at the hand-washing sink and human feces coming through the floor drains which were not flowing properly at the time of the inspection. The store reopened the same day when all plumbing and hot water issues were repaired, according to the health report. No score was given at the time of the field investigation inspection.

Demerits included an employee’s drink on the prep table, a walk-in freezer not closing properly, several gnats and ants found during the routine inspection. Other demerits included the air conditioner not working properly and no certified food manager on staff.

Demerits included storing drinks on the floor inside the walk-in cooler, bait shrimp being stored above bags of ice, mold was found on the drink dispensers, slushi machine and inside the ice machine. The business was told all the equipment needs to be cleaned immediately, according to the health report.

Demerits included the need to cover, date and label all foods inside the coolers and freezers, the need for thermometers inside the coolers and freezers and the vents above the fryers and woks in need of being cleaned of old grease.

Demerits included live worms being stored above prepackaged sandwiches, several expired from 2013, 2014 food items on the shelves and several dead roaches found during the routine inspection.

Demerits included bugs found on boxes of pet foods, drinks stored on the floor inside the walk-in cooler, and the area around the fryers in need of being cleaned of old grease.

Demerits included sausage and eggs found at unsafe temperatures, reusing the same pan liner to bake kolaches, and the area around the fryers and grill in need of being cleaned.

Demerits included the need to cover all foods inside the reach-in freezer, several dead bugs and roaches found, and all food contact surfaces in need of being cleaned. The health report noted the score does not reflect the conditions of the store and the inspector requires follow up visits.
