WEST ORANGE — Continuing their quest for yet another outright district title, the West Orange-Stark Mustangs hit the road Friday to take on the Hamshire-Fannett Longhorns in a battle of teams that are currently undefeated in District 9-4A Division II play.

The Mustangs (7-1, 2-0) have been dominating in their first two 9-4A tilts, blanking Liberty (49-0) and toppling Orangefield (37-3).

The Longhorns (5-2, 1-0) got past Hardin-Jefferson in a thrilling 42-38 win ion their 9-4A opener.

WO-S is allowing just 213 yards a game on defense but the Mustangs have upped the ante in 9-4A play, giving up just 128 yards a contest.

The Mustangs will be challenged by the district’s No. 1 offense and will look to control outstanding Longhorn quarterback Kendrick King.

Sparked by King, the Longhorns are averaging 383.7 yards a game.

King is 9-4A’s leading rusher with 1,139 yards and a whopping 22 touchdowns on just 127 carries. King and fellow quarterback Colby Revia have combined to complete 21-of-38 passes for 421 yards with three TDs and one interception.

H-F back Tyrese White has romped for 537 yards and nine TDs on 80 carries while Thomas Hein has 308 yards and a TD on just 28 totes.

The Mustang offense, which is averaging 375.8 with a balanced attack, will face a Longhorn defense which give up a 9-4A high of 325.6 yards a game.

Mustang quarterback Jack Dallas is having another amazing campaign and has completed 118-of-186 passes for 1,557 yards to go along with 19 TDs and just four picks.

Dallas has been working with a strong group of receivers. Thomas Wallace leads 9-4A with 33 catches for 427 yards and seven TDs. KJ Miller (21-352-6), Keion Hancock (16-240-1) Malick Phillips and Rufus Joseph also play key factors.

Tailback Melech Edwards powers the WO-S ground arsenal with 558 yards and six TDs on 90 carries while Jeremiah Shaw has 394 yards and four TDs on 71 carries.

Dallas was on his mark in WO-S’ 54-21 win over the Longhorns last year as he completed 12-of-13 passes for 329 yards and six TDs.

The Mustangs will close out their regular season at home next week against Hardin-Jefferson.
